ER - Season 15, Episode 22 - "And In the End..."

Today is the final episode of my favorite TV show - ER, and it will be sad to see it finally end >__<

This is my memory of ER
Be generous. With your time...with your love....with your life.

After 15 seasons and 331 episodes, the series ends tonight with a two-hour finale at 9 p.m. on CTV.

The show launched several careers, including that of Oscar winner George Clooney, who left in 1999. Many former cast members are expected to return for the finale.

Old Times at ER

It is indeed Old Times for ER (March 13, 2009, Season 15 Episode 13 "Old Times")
We got to see previous characters blended into this season's story perfectly, and then gone again.
10.7 million viewers tuned in, best rating in several years, despite NBC's quiet non-promotion

I will miss ER dearly, after 15 years.
  • Noah Wyle (Dr. John Carter)
  • George Clooney (Dr. Doug Ross)
  • Julianna Margulies (Carol Hathaway)
  • Eriq La Salle (Dr. Peter Benton)

Looking Back

It is a week of looking back, so that we can look forward
However, it is the number of years that I have looked back that scared me :-) I am old

In last Thursday's ER, Dr. Mark Greene made a guest appearance as we saw the past of Dr. Catherine Banfield (current ER chief) unfolds. Cate lost her son Daryl to acute leukemia in the County General ER and it was Dr. Greene who did his best trying to save him, even at the cost of delaying his chemotherapy for his brain tumor.

We knew we would see guest appearance from characters in previous seasons being the last season of ER. For example, the annoying Dr. Robert Romano who was killed by a chopper falling down from the roof. Sadly it was the last season of ER that the creator, Michael Crichton, could not see it through (Rest in peace)

Financially, looking back at the last few months through Globe's excellent FAQ article

I know people who have lost their jobs, and I think I was close to losing mine at one point.
Ending with this quote I find funny (in bad ways) in this time of unknown.

There is an old joke (recently retold in the Economist) that says that when your neighbour loses her job, it is called an economic slowdown. When you lose your job, it is a recession. But when an economist loses his job, it becomes a depression.

Early Winter

This morning I had frost on my windshields, and they became snow when I scrapped them, so there it is - Oct 22, 2008 is the first day I see snow this winter, and it is not a great feeling to see it so early.

Time to pack away summer clothes, take out scarf and gloves, and get ready for cold mornings

ER
In season premiere Dr. Greg Pratt passed away, now Dr. Abby Lockhart has left (along with Luca) to Boston in the 3rd episode of season 15 (last season).

As I watch the story unfolds, I feel like I am losing pieces of my memory, of ER, of this great show, and the countless moments where life, whether bright or dark, unveils before you, in this tiny place called the Emergency Room.
Abby has been in ER since Season 6, still reckless as usual, but she has grown up from a nurse into a brilliant doctor who understands the patients and will go the extra distance to care for them.
Her personal life [in the show] was nothing to write home about, but to make someone who has been around for so long disappear in 1 episode with a lame story of moving to Boston, it hurts. It hurts less than the death of Dr. Pratt or Dr. Green, but Abby is my favorite character and she will be dearly missed

Blue Jay's Roy Halladay has 20 wins, ER/Smallville thoughts

Roy Halladay, Doc, has won the game last night 8-2 over New York Yankees. His 20th win, 2nd in his career, marks a bittersweet end to a disappointing season by Blue Jays.

To me, Doc is THE team, the Blue Jays, and it is heartbreaking that the team fails him so many times to reach the playoffs. I was fortunate enough to watch Doc almost shut out the Yankees in July at Rogers Centre. Definitely a memory I'll treasure for, and hope for a better next season

Now back to useless TV show reviews

Smallville
I do not know why I continue to watch this, perhaps because they keep saying it's the last season, since season 3. Now two episodes into season 8, it definitely feels like the last season, with Clark Kent working at Daily Planet with Lois Lane, disappearance of Lex/Lana/Martha and appearance of Justice League, I hope they end it well and make Clark fly. Not being a Superman comic fan, I was very confused by the Superman movie, Smallville to which one is the true Superman storyline, if it does exist.

ER
It is the last season, and first episode Dr. Greg Pratt is gone, killed by the ambulence bombing just when everything looked fine in the first 10 minutes. Wow, that was a sad moment as he's been in ER for 8 years, and seems like Abby/Luka will be leaving Chicago as well. They may as well call it a season of farewells.

Farewell, ER, you will remain the memories that accompanied me for 15 years and on.
